As far back as Razzy Bailey can remember he has had a strong drive to be in music. At
the age of four or five growing up in Alabama his thoughts were of one day performing
on the country music show he and his parents never missed , the Grand Ole Opry.
Born in Alabama on February 14th, Rasie Michael Bailey changed the spelling of his
birth name to Razzy to help others with the pronounciation and spelling of it. Razzy and
his family moved to Texas for a while which added an even broader exposure to
different music which still adds to his singing and writing style. He grew up with a
country music heart influenced by southern rock, blues and swing music.
Even though he was born in Alabama, Georgia has adopted him as one of their sons of
music. Razzy Bailey is in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. His music has spanned the
genres of country, blues, rock, and swing.
With the release of a new single Razzy recalls one of the most memorable days in his
life “I was rehearsing with the band in Macon, Georgia, which claims me for one of their
own these days, and I got a phone call from Bell Records complimenting me on my
single and asking if they could pick up the album. After hanging up the phone and
going back to the practice session, it wasn’t but just a few minutes later that MGM and
Capitol called.” Three major labels calling in one day truly astounded him.
Razzy Bailey has a career which spans decades in the music industry and a rise to the
top of the charts. A prominent figure in music, Razzy has thirteen (13) #1 singles, thirty
two (32) Top 10 singles and recognition as Billboard’s “Artist of the Year.” Razzy is also
the only artist to ever have both sides of a 45 climb to the top of the Billboard charts
three times in a row producing a 6 song run to #1.
Razzy’s name is one to be noted alongside his diverse musical friends and often
recording partners Dobie Gray, Delbert McClinton, Johnny Cash, folk legend Richie
Havens, Steve Cropper and KISS member Peter Kris. Like many veteran artists, his
talent in the songwriting arena equals the recognition he’s received as a performer that
shatters country music’s borders and stereotypes. His songs have been recorded by
legends such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Mickey Gilley, Charlie Daniels, Lee
Greenwood, Steve Cropper, Dickey Lee and Ricochet. Outside the U.S, Razzy’s songs
have an unprecedented staying power as Thai artist Bird Thongchai had a hit in 2008
with Razzy’s signature 9,999,999 Tears. Thongchai molded the country single into a
Latin dance mix proving that great songwriting transcends musical and cultural
borders. Razzy recalls “When I wrote that song, I actually had more of an up beat
version in mind so it was great to see an artist finally take the song that direction."
Today Razzy still finds great pleasure in performing and bringing delight to his
listeners. The release of his latest CD Damned Good Time marks one of his favorite
works. Razzy has brought back to life the sounds of the 70's in country and blues style
music. Wherever Razzy Bailey performs audiences of all ages approve and enjoy.
Razzy Bailey is a living legend of the music business, with numerous Top Ten hits and
honors throughout the music industry as a whole.
